Eligibility to Serve as Principal Investigator

Full time members of the Faculty may serve as Principal Investigators/Project Directors on sponsored programs. Individuals with certain other titles may serve under special circumstances with the approval of the Vice Provost for Research. Research Associates, Extension Associates, Lecturers, or Senior Assistant Librarians may be approved to serve as principal investigators for a specific project and its duration. To request approval, please submit the "Application to Serve as Principal Investigator" and the required attachments. It must be received by the Office of the Vice Provost for Research five (5) working days prior to any required submission date for the affected proposal. A copy of this form will be returned to the administering department or center to serve as notification of approval.

Please note that Principal Investigators must complete an annual disclosure statement of conflicts of interest (COI) and commitment before proposal submission. See the Office of Research Integrity and Assurance COI website for more information. See also the University Conflicts Policy.
